Our Story

For the love of seafood

WHERE EVERYTHING STARTED

It’s as a young man that our chef, Constant Mentzas, discovered his love for all things fish and seafood. His father being Greek, he spent several summers in Greece where he fell in love with the simple pleasure of a fresh fish grilled to perfection. It’s these memories and passion we aim to share with our guests. A seasonal and convivial cuisine that’s best enjoyed when shared with those closest to us.

For Constant, food is a family story. His father was a restaurateur and it was clear that he would follow in his footsteps. Becoming a chef was the natural path for our leader but it wasn’t always clear he would choose it.

Constant had a profound love of film. It’s in this industry that he would learn how to bring people together and work toward a common goal on budget and under a strenuous production schedule. No small feat and a valuable asset in the restaurant world.

Slowly, Ikanos came to be. A legacy which for the past 5 years has adorned McGill Street in a splendid historical building on the western edge of Old Montreal.

At Ikanos, we also do our utmost to reduce our carbon footprint as best we can. We encourage local agriculture and have invested in our very own garden in Hemmingford. All our sides and the vegetables on our plates were either locally sourced or grown ourselves. Moreover, our garden is certified Écocert which encourages biodiversity through the planting of ancestral varieties of everyday produce we know and love. A boon for our kitchen staff as well, they love rediscovering the flavours these forgotten varieties provide. We hope you do too!

Our commitment to good food goes beyond the restaurant, we are also involved in our community. Every year, we associate ourselves with Non-Profit Organisations to help in the development of our city and it’s less fortunate citizens.
